About Loyola College :

Loyola College, a Catholic Minority Institution, was founded by the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) in 1925, with the primary objective of providing University Education in a Christian atmosphere for deserving students irrespective of caste and creed.

It started functioning in July 1925 with just 75 students on the rolls in three undergraduate courses of Mathematics, History and Economics.

Loyola College, though affiliated to University of Madras, became autonomous in July 1978. It is autonomous, in the sense that it is empowered to frame its own course of studies and adopt innovative methods of teaching and evaluation. The University degrees will be conferred on the students passing the examinations conducted by the college.

UGC conferred the status of “College with potential for Excellence” on Loyola College in 2004 and confirmed the same in 2010.

NAAC's re-accreditation score in 2012 (Third Cycle) is 3.70 out of 4.00 CGPA.

UGC has elevated Loyola College to the status of “College of Excellence” for the period from April 1, 2014 till March 31, 2019.

About Madras Christian College (MCC) College :

Madras Christian College (MCC) began its life as a School founded in 1837 by Rev. John Anderson, a missionary from Scotland. The School became a College in 1865 during Dr William Miller’s dynamic stewardship of the institution. In 1937, a hundred years after founding, the College gave up its growingly strident and congested city centre establishment in Georgetown for a sprawling 365 acres spread in suburban Tambaram. It was in this felicitous campus that Dr A.J. Boyd and his team of professors evolved a new pattern of learning and living, which made ‘Tambaram’ a byword for a unique brand of education.

The college was one among the first institutions in the country to be granted Autonomy in 1978. Autonomy has helped to bring academic pursuits closer to the life of the student, teacher and the neighbourhood. Introduction of new courses, curricular innovations and examination reforms have made education here more significant and contemporary. Inducement to sustained industry, emphasis on work with a practical orientation, and methods of learning through oral and written presentations have enhanced competence and committment resulting in a more exhilarating study ethos and atmosphere.

A significant milestone in the 26th year of autonomy (2003-2004) was the ushering in of the restructured curriculum at the Postgraduate level of the Aided Stream and the Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels of the Self-Financed Stream (SFS) under the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS). The CBCS was introduced at the Undergraduate level of Aided Stream from the academic year 2004-2005. This facility strengthens the academic potential of the students as it provides flexibility in the choice of courses within the framework of the disciplines of study offered by the Departments. The introduction of the CBCS ensures compatibility with the academic norms practiced in similar institutions of excellence in India and abroad.

In 2012, the College was reaccredited with a grade A by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). This has been made possible due to the College’s achievement in the area of academic research and consultancy offered by the faculty, International programmes, service-learning, student governance, sports, cultural activities and partnerships. Currently, College enrolment is a mix of over 3500 men and 2500 women students including nearly 150 research scholars from different parts of India and from 18 countries abroad. The College has a highly distinguished faculty. Innovative academic programmes are designed and offered by the Departments. Madras Christian College has consistently been ranked among the top Arts and Science Colleges in the country.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has awarded the College with Potential for Excellence (CPE) status for the period 2014 – 2019.

The college has plethora of co-curricular activities, organized and run by students. It includes cultural festivals and competitions in public speaking and debating, quiz and creative writing, painting and sculpturing, dramatics and theatre and other games of mental and verbal skills which contribute to the wholesome development of the student. The College is endowed with fine play fields and sports facilities. In athletics and other sports activities the College continues to keep old traditions of winning and sportspersonship alive. The salubrious sylvan campus comprising scrub and open field is a bird watcher’s paradise and a delight to walk, jog or merely indulge in flights of fantasy..

At the bottom right, there is a lotus, the symbol for purity and prosperity. The bottom left represents a replica of Golden Rock standing for strength and striving. Inset in the mid-circle is the frontage of the college main building with a dome and minarets representing the essence of Islamic culture: The present is a preparation for the Hereafter. Underneath the shield is a ribbon containing a verse from the Holy Quran in Arabic Script followed by its translation in English that reads: 'Show us the right path', which is the motto of the college.

Thus the emblem of Jamal enshrines the ideals of cultural integration and guidance of learning and striving to succeed in the Here and the Hereafter, tempered with constant prayers to the Almighty to guide us on the straight path. Top 50 Engineering Colleges in Tamilnadu Under Anna University Chennai

This College Ranking is based on Result wise held on April - May and  Nov - Dec 2015 Examination.

Rhymend Uthariaraj, professor, department of IT-MIT in Anna University, Mr. Uthariaraj said the State had more than 570 engineering colleges and all details of the colleges were available online. He also gave details on when the rank list would be prepared, the counselling would be held, and the requirement of candidates applying under each category. He urged the students to choose courses that aligned with their area of interest, give importance to core branches, and look at several details before choosing the college.

Of the 516 non-autonomous affiliated engineering colleges the Anna University ranked on June 14, 2016, Coimbatore-based PSG Institute of Technology and Applied Research has secured the first rank.

The University had prepared the rank list based on students’ pass percentage in the November-December 2015 examinations.

The PSG college had managed the secured the top position in the rank list the University released based on the April-May 2015 examination results as well.

In the latest list, a Coimbatore college is among the last 10 colleges with a pass percentage of 3.08.

In the list based on the April-May results, the PSG college had a pass percentage of 97.32. In the latest list, the percentage stands at 97.01, a marginal dip of 31 percentile points.

There are six Coimbatore colleges in the top 50 of the list.

The rank list comes days ahead of the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions for 2016.

Anna University on Tuesday uploaded on its website performance of colleges for the academic year 2015. In at least eight colleges, fewer than 10 students have passed the November-December 2015 semester with all 14 students from one college in Vellore failing the exams.

In the April-May 2015 semester exams, however, only three colleges – in Villupuram, Coimbatore and Kanyakumari - had registered a poor performance with less than 10 students clearing the exams.

The top two places for November/December 2015 have gone to newcomers – PSG Institute of Technology and Applied Research and Ramco Institute of Technology. Both these institutions have yet to send out their first batch of students. However, between the first and the second institution there is a gap of 10 percentage points.

PSG has performed well in the April/May 2015 semester too, with a pass percentage of 97.32, while Ramco registered 88.52. In November/December semester PSG’s pass percentage is 97.01. Ramco has registered a pass percentage of 87.97.

Although colleges have been quick to gain mileage from the new information, Anna University insists that the index is about performance only for the semesters mentioned.

According to University officials, however, low pass percentages should not be seen just as poor performance of a college. “If, from a college, just one student manages to pass then credit should be given to the student for the effort he has taken despite the lack of faculty,” says R. Raju, Additional Controller of Examination of Anna University. “See the performance of PSG and Ramco. They are both newcomers but the students have managed to do well,” he says.

The University divides the semesters as odd and even . “The pass percentages provide students a general understanding of how a college is performing academically,” he says.

Students of PSG and Ramco are benefiting from the experienced staff. The established PSG College of Technology is mentor to the new institute and Ramco has moved from being a polytechnic to an engineering institution and has benefited from its experienced staff, some professors said.Top 50 Engineering Colleges Under Anna University Result Wise,  Ranking of affiliated colleges Under Anna University, Anna University affiliated colleges Ranking.
