Google to Let Android Apps Work the Cash Register

Google to Let Android Apps Work the Cash Register

Android app developers will soon be able to offer users in-app purchases. This will enable devs to up their revenues by sell in-game virtual goods as well as offer so-called freemium apps -- directly selling the user an immediate upgrade after letting them try a "lite" version of the app first. Giving devs more ways to make money could draw additional interest to the Android platform.

Facebook Puts HTTPS Security Guard on Full-Time Duty

Facebook announced new measures Wednesday aimed at improving users' security Enterprise Payment Security 2.0 Whitepaper from CyberSource when visiting the site. The news came with an intriguing twist: Mere hours prior to the announcement, it was revealed that the Facebook fan page of the company's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, was compromised by a hacker.
While some online Create an online store today -- 30 day free trial. Click here to learn more. skeptics linked Facebook's new security features -- broader use of the HTTPS protocol and a new form of authentication -- to the Zuckerberg hack, at least one security expert discounted that connection.
"It was coincidental," Chet Wisniewski, a security adviser with Sophos, a cybersecurity firm based in Burlington, Mass., told TechNewsWorld "The amount of effort it takes for them to enable their systems to provide something like SSL or social authentication is months of research and work on their behalf."
Facebook attributed the Zuckerberg hack to a "bug" which it said it has squashed.
Facebook announced the new security measures at its company blog. It linked the measures to Data Privacy Day, which is being celebrated Friday. The day is an effort to boost security awareness mounted by governments, businesses and advocacy groups around the world.
Secure Connections

Facebook already uses HTTPS, which encrypts information sent over a computer network, to protect passwords sent to the system. That has now been expanded to cover all communication with the service, not just the moment when the user signs on. "Starting today, we'll provide you with the ability to experience Facebook entirely over HTTPS," Facebook security engineer Alex Rice wrote in the company's blog.
Maintaining an HTTPS connection throughout one's Facebook session should thwart attempts by hackers snooping on others via public networks by using tools like Firesheep, a Firefox plug-in that Net Security.org.
"You should consider enabling this option if you frequently use Facebook from public Internet access points found at coffee shops, airports, libraries or schools," he added.
Members should use HTTPS even more often than that, asserted Wisniewski. "Facebook should turn it on by default," he said. "I don't like the idea that users should be forced to opt in to something that's good for them.
Facebook's Rice warned members that enabling HTTPS could make the service appear to run slower. "That's bupkis," Wisniewski declared.
"If you can tell it's 50 milliseconds slower, then you may notice," he explained, "The reality is that the experience won't really change for users. It will just enhance their security."

A New Kinda CAPTCHA

Another new security feature is something Facebook is calling "social authorization." It's similar to the CAPTCHA systems found at many websites to foil automated spam attacks.
Instead of using a CAPTCHA puzzle -- typically an image consisting of words in distressed and distorted type -- social authorization requires a Facebook member to identify photos of their friends. "Hackers halfway across the world might know your password, but they don't know who your friends are," Rice reasoned.
The system may be effective against automated attacks by "bots" on a member's account, but less effective against more intimate intruders. "The bot won't be smart enough to identify your friends," Wisniewski explained. "But it won't stop your kid sister or your wife or someone who knows you well enough to get past it."
While praising Facebook's latest security moves, some privacy watchers maintained that the social network still has a long way to go in that area.
The security measures can help foil active hackers, noted Michael Fertik, CEO ofReputation.com, a Redwood City, Calif.-based maker of privacy software. The real concern for the public, however, is what happens to private information as it's used by websites, applications and by third parties, he maintained.

Thick Walls Riddled With Open Doors

Although Facebook's move may bolster the security of its system, the issue of what the social network does with the information it holds remaining a burning one. "The walls have gotten thicker, but there are 50 open doors," Fertik told TechNewsWorld.
Additional Facebook security features are always welcome, said Zeljka Zorz, news editor atNet Security.org. However, he was not optimistic about Facebook treating its members' information as anything but food for its advertisers.
"Facebook should stop sharing our information," he told TechNewsWorld, "but let's face it. It's never going to happen."
"You have to use your judgment and decide what information you don't want to share with the world," he added.

How to access orkut from office or college, where orkut is blocked?

There are tons of other ways of bypassing censorship for blocked sites, but here is a very simple and a unique trick which was accidentally discovered by me. Its just like an another domain name for Orkut or an another parked domain for Orkut.
Googlers intelligently, parked another domain for orkut. This trick works if your college or office internet provider has just blocked www.orkut.com or orkut.combut if they had completely blocked the Orkut by blocking *.orkut.com, then this trick will not work for you.
Actually Googlers added images.orkut.com & pointed it to the root folder of Orkut. Now if you want to access orkut, all you have do is just type images.orkut.cominstead of www.orkut.com in your browser address bar.
So now when you access orkut all the links will have images instead of www in the beginning. Now isn’t that really good?
So what are you waiting for? Just simply login to http://images.orkut.com/ & bypass all censorship to Orkut!

ASP.NET FAQ Interview Questions & Answers

1) Is ASP.NET and ASP+ the same?
Yes! ASP+ and ASP.NET refer to the same thing. First ASP.NET was called ASP+ since its a upgrade to ASP. It was also called ASP.NET since its a part of the .NET platform. But later on ASP+ was causing a lot of confusion hence it was decided to call it as ASP.NET.

2) Is ASP.NET a upgrade to ASP?
Yes, ASP.NET is a major upgrade over ASP. It does have backward support for ASP, but ASP.NET is better managed, well developed and best of all Compiled! So no more slow interpreted scripting, in ASP.NET you use any of the .NET managed languages like C#, VB.NET, JScript.NET even COBOL.NET to write your ASP.NET pages.

3) Should all ASP programmers learn ASP.NET?
This depends on what kind of ASP programmer you are. One thing is sure that ASP.NET will replace ASP in the coming years, but  it will at least take a year for that to happen. Till that time ASP will surely be a more popular choice.

4) Does ASP.NET need the .NET Platform?
ASP.NET derives its power from the .NET Platform and Services. Hence you need to install the .NET Platform for your ASP.NET applications. There is a separate .NET redistributable runtime (20 MB) available that can be installed on production web servers.

5) I am a Web Server Admin, How do I install support for ASP.NET on my server?
You will have to install the .NET redistributable runtime (20 MB) on production web servers.

6 I want to use a assembly (Dll) made by me on my page, where do I place the Dll library file?
According to the ASP.NET specification you have to create a "/bin" directory inside the Virtual Directory which hosts your application and copy the "Dll" file in this "/bin" directory. For Example: you have a virtual directory called "myapplication" then create a sub-directory within it called "bin". Then you can copy your custom assemblies and code-behind files to the "bin" directory.

7 Do I need to register the Managed Dll uploaded to the web server? Do I have to re-start the web server incase I need to update my previous assembly Dll?
All such worries are gone with .NET! To deploy/install a Managed Dll on your server all you need to do is XCopy the Dll to the 'bin' directory (which resides within your Virtual Directory) and that's it! Your Dll is installed. In case you want to update a previously written assembly, just overwrite it by XCopy and your ASP.NET application will automatically sense the new version of your assembly and start using the updated assemblies without any server re-start!

8 How is it possible to update my assemblies on the server without a server re-start?
If you knew a bit about the windows file system, you would know that when a file is in use by a application the operating system locks it down, so no one can change or delete the file. The same applies to the .NET Assemblies also! To overcome this problem the ASP.NET design team designed a mechanism where, when the ASP.NET application first requests a new assembly, a shadow-copy of that assembly is made and then the shadow-copy is used by the ASP.NET runtime. Hence the original file never gets locked, its the duplicate copy which is locked by the application; so you can overwrite the original file without needing to re-start the web server.
Once you update the assembly on the server with a new one, the ASP.NET runtime senses it and makes a copy of the new assembly. All new client requests are now served from the new assembly. This way ASP.NET achieves a graceful upgrade without any additional downtime!

9 What is the difference between User Controls and Custom Controls?
There is a small difference between the two. User Controls are basically text files with the extension '.ascx' which enables you to make GUI re-usable controls. Since its a text file, it generally contains a mixture of HTML and scripting. You can edit User Controls in an editor and they are also called as Pagelets. They are also called as Include files in steroids!
On the other hand Custom Controls reside in compiled ( Dll ) assemblies. They are non-GUI but can emit HTML GUI at runtime. Example of Custom Controls would be the sever controls which come bundled with the .NET SDK like DataGrid, Repeater, DataList etc. Custom Controls are always compiled into Dll's and hence require good programming knowledge. The purpose of Custom Controls too is to create re-usable units of code.

10 What is Code Behind?
Speaking in a strict sense the concept of codebehind is native to Visual Studio.NET and has nothing to do with the ASP.NET API. But speaking loosely, ASP.NET allows you to separate your code and user interface (UI) into Dll's and '.aspx' pages respectively. This way the programmers and the designers can work separately without spoiling or interfering in each others work on the same page. Since the code is separate from the main file its called as Code-Behind. The codebehind attribute is native to Visual Studio.NET, but since there is no other term to define the code and presentation separation, the word code-behind is used by all developers.

11 Can ASP.NET applications run on a web server other than IIS?
This is possible, since all the code is now essentially compiled unlike the ASP Scripting there is no need for ASP.NET to depend on IIS. Unfortunately at present there are no other web servers capable of running ASP.NET.

12 Can ASP.NET applications run without a Web Server?
This too is possible! You can run ASP.NET applications right from a CD, just as you would run any other normal application, without a web server! Since the ASP.NET framework depends strongly on the .NET Platform rather than IIS you can write your own HTTP handlers that will run your application. Unfortunately at present there are no examples on it.

13 Which Windows Operating Systems support ASP.NET?
Currently the ASP.NET runtime distributed through the .NET SDK only supports Windows 2000 (any flavor), Windows XP Professional and the Windows .NET Server. Other versions of Windows are not currently supported.

Ask*People*2*get*Passport*Before*Applying 4 Hajj 2011

Only valid passport holders allowed at Haj 2011: SHC

Srinagar, Dec 26 : No application of those intending to undertake Haj-2011, will be considered without valid passport, Executive Officer (EO) of the State Haj Committee (SHC) said.

He said the Hajj Committee of India has decided that only passport holders will be asked to apply for Haj-2011.

He said therefore all the intending pilgrims are requested to apply for passports immediately and obtain international passports before the formal announcements of Haj-2011.

Only passport holders will be preferred at the time of draw of lottery, he said.

The Saudi Arabia government has not been allowing any Haj pilgrim to enter the country without holding an International passport for the past few years.

Earlier, pilgrims from different countries, including India , were traveling to holy cities for performing the pilgrimage on special passports.

However, because it was time consuming at Jeddah airport to clear these pilgrims travelling on permits, the Saudi Government decided to allow only passport holders to undertake the pilgrimage.

For the past two years, the Haj pilgrims selected through draw of lotteries by different states in the country, were issued passports
on priority without verifications from police and intelligence agencies.

Merits of using Miswak

Alhamdulillaah, we all understand the importance of oral hygiene. Science in the twentieth century has shown us the link between poor oral hygiene and certain diseases such as stroke, heart disease, pre-term babies, as well as general ill-health of a person.

However, while shuffling between electric/sonic toothbrushes, water piks and expensive dental treatments, we forgot that while the rest of mankind just recently discovered the toothbrush about a 100 years ago, one unlettered Prophet (pbuh) living in the middle of a desert 1400 years ago, already showed us the significance of brushing the teeth and keeping the mouth clean

The Prophets (pbuh) teeth were beautiful, perfect and pearly white at a time when the concept of oral healthcare was totally obscure and nobody beyond the age of 30 had any teeth left!

He (pbuh) used the Siwaak or tooth stick to clean his teeth, a twig taken from the araak tree found in and around Makkah. He (pbuh) loved to use it and highly encouraged us to do the same.

Ibn Masood said: “I used to gather siwaak sticks from the araak tree for the Messenger of Allaah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam.” (Ahmad--hasan).

Now, I am not telling you to throw out your toothbrushes in the garbage. The Siwaak is an act of worship and a Sunnah for which you will be rewarded, so use it in addition to you toothbrushes, and gain the pleasure of Allaah, Most High.

BENEFITS OF SIWAAK:

1) Siwaak is an act of worship and pleases Allaah

“The Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam said, Siwaak cleanses the mouth and pleases the Lord.’” (Bukhaari)

2) The Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam highly encouraged it

Use of the Siwaak is a Sunnah that you will be rewarded for and is greatly encouraged.

The Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam said:
“Were it not for the fact that I did not want to make things too hard for my ummah, I would have commanded them to use the Siwaak at every time of prayer.” (Bukhaari)

3) Medical benefits

While some educated Muslims consider the Siwaak barbaric and uncivilized and look down upon those who use it, scientific studies have proven beyond doubt, that the Siwaak not only brushes the teeth and keeps them white, but also has antibacterial properties, fights gingivitis, eliminates bad breath, strengthens the gums, prevents plaque, helps in digestion, and contributes to the general health of the individual. (Islamic medicine by Dr. Mohammad Nezar al Dagr)

This is yet another proof of the truthfulness of the prophethood of Muhammad (pbuh).

TIMES WHEN SIWAAK IS RECOMMENDED

Siwaak is recommended at all times of night and day, but there are certain specific situations where use of the siwaak is even more strongly encouraged.

1)
When making wudoo and at times of prayer.

The Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam said: “Were it not for the fact that I did not want to make things too hard for my ummah, I would have commanded them to use the siwaak at every time of prayer.”

According to another report he said: “…at every time of making wudoo’

2)When entering ones home

Aaishah said, “When he sallallahu alaihi wa sallam entered his house, the first thing he would do was to use the Siwaak.” (Muslim).

3) When getting up from sleep

Hudhayfah (RA) said that when the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam got up during the night, he would clean his mouth thoroughly with the siwaak.(Bukhaari,Muslim)

4) When the mouth emits odor

Such as after eating food with a strong odor, like onions or garlic or because of not eating or drinking for a long time, etc.

5) When going to the masjid

Using siwaak is part of the adornment which we (men only) are commanded to wear for every prayer. It is also important because the angels are present in the mosque, and one is going to meet with other worshippers there.

6) When reading Quraan and doing dhikr of Allaah

7) When joining good gatherings

8) After the signs of death are evident

It is reported in Bukhaari that Aaisha (RA) said that the Prophet (pbuh) wanted to and used the Siwaak just before he sallallahu alaihi wa sallam passed away.

Important points about the Siwaak

1)The twigs of the araak tree are preferable but any kind of sticks that are cleansing may be used, if it is not available. (That includes toothbrushes and toothpastes)

2)It is forbidden to use harmful or poisonous sticks or things that are not taahir (pure).

3)There is nothing wrong with using siwaak flavored with mint, lemon, etc. unless the person is fasting.

3) The Siwaak should nether be too dry(it may hurt the gums)nor too wet (won’t clean)

4)A person should start from the right side, and use a side-to-side motion rather than up-and-down, as the latter may harm the gums.

5)One should not use the siwaak in front of others or in public, because this is impolite.

6) The siwaak should be washed after use.

Aaishah RA said: “The Prophet (pbuh) used the siwaak, then he would give it to me to wash it. I would use it first, then wash it and give it back to him.” (Abu Dawood)

7)The siwaak should be kept in a clean place.

Using siwaak when fasting

The scholars agree that there is nothing wrong with using siwaak during the day when one is fasting. However, one should avoid using any of the flavored Siwaak that are available and only use the natural kind during this time.

Some people use the hadeeth “The odor that comes from the mouth of the fasting person is better in the sight of Allaah than the scent of musk” (Bukhaari) as evidence to not use the Siwaak.

But, this is not applicable since this mouth odor is caused by the stomach being empty, not from the mouth itself and will not be dispelled by using the Siwaak.

REVIVE THE SUNNAH

This beautiful Sunnah has been lost in the plethora of toothbrushes and modern technologies, and we have put our Siwaaks aside. We need to revive this great Sunnah. Not only will it earn us a beautiful smile, and a healthy mouth and body, but it will also earn us rewards and the pleasure of Allaah Subhaanahu wa Taaala
