UK's first 4G live trial starts, in Cornwall

If you live in Cornwall, it's not just the unseasonably good weather giving you reason to smile of late, for the region is also the site of the UK's first 4G live trial, testing super-fast broadband speeds. Now, anyone got a spare room down there?
Everything Everywhere and BT Wholesale have started the trial, supplying 200 customers in St. Newlyn East and the surrounding South Newquay area with LTE technology. And considering the area at present has little or no broadband, as well as the fact that Ofcom announced just this afternoon that the UK-wide 4G rollout will be delayed, those lucky guinea pigs are in for quite a treat…
It's the world's first test of LTE that can be deployed to both mobile and fixed line customers, meaning they're getting ridiculously quick Internet speeds in their homes as well as on their smart phones.
LTE is capable of download speeds between 150-160Mbps -- although that's a theoretical maximum and it's highly unlikely anyone will actually achieve it. Experts predict actual speeds will be between 5-10Mbps for mobile phones, which is still mighty impressive.
There are 100 people trialling LTE on mobile, and another 100 on home broadband, all within an area of 25 square kilometres. The trial will use 10MHz of the 800MHz spectrum. Now, the bad news.
Ofcom has just admitted that the 4G spectrum auction won't take place until the end of 2012, reports The Register. The organisation is going to do another round of consultation before aiming to get the auctions happening towards the end of next year, according to a press release -- so the rest of us have a while to wait yet.
It's likely that the spectrum won't be available for commercial use until 2013, but realistically we won't see it up and running until at least the year after, as the companies will all have to plan their infrastructure and raise the funds. Currently 4G is in use in some Scandinavian countries and in the USA. Those folk in Cornwall don't know how lucky they are.

Google Books comes to the UK

It's been a while coming, but Google Books has finally made it to UK shores after a spell of US exclusivity. So that means you can now get your hands on millions of titles, some for free, right on your phone. Not too shabby, we think you'll agree.
You'll need a handset with Android 2.1 or later to take advantage of the app that's launched alongside the browser-based store.
A statement from Google reads: "Readers in the UK now have access to the world's largest ebooks collection, with hundreds of thousands of ebooks for sale -- from major UK publishers like Hachette, Random House and Penguin -- as well as more than two million public domain ebooks for free."
With the latest Kindle costing just £89, Google might have been prompted to try and cash in by launching its literary app at a moment when lots of readers are likely to turn digital. Or perhaps its late release has been held up by regional copyright issues. Of course, it could have just been ironing out some bugs while in its US-only incarnation.
A Books section has also been added to the Android Marketplace, to go with the usual Apps and Games. As well as phones, the ebooks will work on tablets, laptops and ebook readers.
Google has had some controversy in the literary field before. It was accused by publishers, groups and individuals of infringing copyright for its Google Print service. Google entered into a settlement with the Authors Guild in 2008, bringing to an end the lawsuit alleging copyright infringement.

• First of all install Greasemonkey  Add-On to your Firefox browser.
• Click on Add to Firefox and then on install Now button.

• Now Restart your Firefox and you will see a monkey icon adjacent to your Address bar.
• After installing this you have to install a user script Google Book Downloader.
• For this click on the install button and again on install button.

• Now you will see a message displaying Google Book Downloader installed successfully at the right bottom of your screen.

• Now go to the Google book store and find your book there.
• Here you will see a button saying Download this Book in the left panel.

• That’s it. Now you will be able read your desired book offline.

Note:- If you are not able to download book on clicking Download this Book button then install FlashGot Add-on in your browser. After installing the addon right click on the Download this Book button and select FlashGot Link option and then click start download button.

BLOCK UNWANTED MAILS IN GMAIL

want to block some unwanted emails in gmail ?

JUST follow these steps

1. Login to your account

2. At the top-right corner, click on Settings

3. Under Settings, click on Filters

4. You’ll now see an option “Create a new filter“, click on it

5. Now in the Form field enter the email address from which you do not want to receive emails

For ex. you may enter abc@xyz.com in the From field to block all incoming emails from this address. However if you want to block the whole domain then use the following syntax: *@xyz.com. Now all the incoming emails from the domain xyz.com will be blocked.

6. Click on Next Step, select the action you’d like to take on the blocked emails. You may select the option Delete it so that the blocked email is moved to trash. To unblock the email, all you need to do is just delete the filter that you’ve created.

The fastest internet connection in the world

A new optical technologies for The fastest internet connection in the world are being tested in Japan. Fierce, technology is capable of reaching speeds of 30 terabit per second (Tbps) or more than 32 billion Kbps.

The trial has been conducted by KDDI R & D Labs with the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) in Japan. Tested using the technology called OFDM transmission alias orthogonal frequency divisionmultiplex.
Just to compare, internet connection speed is still far-very far from being achieved in these trials. Speeds of 500 kilobits per second (Kbps), for example, has included quite normal to use everyday. While the average internet speed in the world, based on final 2008 data, is 1.5 Mbps or 1500 Kbps.
Well, 30 terabit per second is approximately equivalent to 32 billion kilobits per second. At this rate, per second of data can be sent to reach 3.9 million MB, or nearly 1,000 pieces of DVD movies per second.
As quoted from the Nikkei on Thursday (30/07/2009), trials were conducted at a distance of 240 kilometers, which means not just testing at close range. KDDI plans to commercialize this technol
