World's Thinnest Ultrabook

Acer launches World's Thinnest Ultrabook

Acer India has launched a new range of computing devices called Ultrabooks. Ultrabooks are a new class of mobile computers that marry the performance and capabilities of today's laptops with tablet like features. Interestingly, while several people use the term ultrabook loosely for a device that'sa cross between an under-powered netbook and a full-fledged notebook, most are unaware of the fact that 'Ultrabook' is an Acer trademark. Acer is the number one netbook brand globally and is now leading the pack with innovation in this new line of devices that integrate the features of notebooks and tablets. The recent Q2 2011 market research reports from both Gartner and IDC position Acer as the No. 2 PC vendor in India. Acer Aspire S3 is the first ultrabook to be launched in India. Powered by 2nd generation Intel®CoreTMprocessor family, Aspire S3 promises best in class performance combined with improved responsiveness and energy conscious innovations. The shining beacons of Aspire S3 are Acer Green Instant On and Acer Instant Connect features. Instant On delivers fast responsiveness and also provides energy efficiency due to enhanced power management. Aspire S3 provides up to7 hours of battery life. This feature enables the notebook to fast resume in 1.5 seconds from Sleep (6 seconds from Deep Sleep). Instant Connect provides access to internet in just 2.5 seconds - four times the faster than conventional connections - when resuming. The embedded lithium-polymer battery is super-lightweight and also prevents any accidental bursts.
"With the launch of the Acer Aspire S3 Ultrabook, we have charted a new line of course to the mobile computing world by effortlessly combining the essential features of both a notebook and a tablet," says S.Rajendran, Chief Marketing Officer, Acer India.
All that performance and increased responsiveness is packed into an elegant form factor with an aerodynamic design. At just 13 mm (0.51") thickness, Aspire S3 weighs less than 1.4 kgs. The Silver Mg-Al alloy chassis is feather-light, but also strong as steel. The integrated design LCD cuts the bezel thickness by a third but is protected by a resilient case design with aluminum cage for maximum protection. The fingerprint-free Silver-Aluminum alloy lid has a silky smooth feel to it. The innovativedesign also provides a unique thermal efficiency for comfortable use. The bottom of the notebook is vent-free and warm components are placed away from palmrest and touchpad area. Air channeled from the keyboard keeps the notebook cool while warm air is directed to the rear. Acer clearly intends to position Aspire S3 as a multimedia machine as well. With Intel® HD Graphics 3000 in the hood, Aspire S3 also includes Dolby® Home Theater® v4 for vibrant, cinema-style surround sound and HDMI with HDCP support that allows you to transfer 1080p HD video to monitors, projectors, and TVs. Aspire S3 comes with an integrated 1.3 megapixel camera and includes the latest Bluetooth 4.0+HSR technology. As of now, Aspire S3 only includes USB 2.0 ports, but this is a rollover change and upcoming units in production might see inclusion of USB 3.0 ports.
Acer Aspire S3 is inspired by nature and captures the spirit of the smallest bird species, the Hummingbird. It takes analogies from the diminutive form, yet the agility and aerodynamic prowess of the bird. The Acer Aspire S3 will be available at Rs. 49,999/- onwards. The Ultrbookhas great specifications at this price point, packed in an easy-to-carry, elegant form-factor. With a strong festivebuying season in the last quarter of the year, Acer is targeting sales of 2500-3000 units per month and in all likeliness, they might not be off the mark on this one.
