IAS Coaching Centre In Tamilnadu for Muslim Girls
Encouraged by one of its students making it to the IAS and several others clearing the examinations conducted by the Tamil Nadu Public Services Commission (TNPSC), the Azhagiya Kadan IAS Academy has decided to launch a coaching centre exclusively for Muslim girls in Chennai.
But the academy will not encourage the girls to opt for the IPS. “We are launching the academy in response to the request from girls from our community. We will train 25 girls in the first batch, for which the entrance test will be held on August 17,” said Arif Ahmed, its administrative officer.
Moulana S. Shamsudeen Qasinin, Chief Imam of the Makka Majid on Annasalai, launched the academy in 2012 to help make up for the poor representation of minorities, especially the Muslims, in the administrative services. Mohammad Ashraf, one of its students, cleared the IAS examination and around 10 students passed the Group-I and Group-II examinations conducted by the TNPSC recently.
Mr. Arif said all 25 girls would get free training, accommodation and food for one year. “Those who clear the preliminary examination will get further coaching.”
The academy has arranged accommodation at our Majid at Choolai Medu. The entrance examination will be held in Chennai, Coimbatore, Tiruchi, Vellore, Tirunelveli, Krishnagiri and Madurai.
Asked why the academy would not encourage the girls to sit for the IPS examination, Mr. Arif said the uniform in the police service would make it irksome for the girls to adjust.
“While our aim is to encourage them to enter the civil service, we also need to take into consideration our religious sentiments. We will provide them a perfect Islamic environment.”
“Merit will be the criterion for selection, but the economic background of the students will also be considered,” he added.

About Chennai Anna University College
Brief History of Anna University Chennai
Anna University was established on 4th September 1978 as a unitary type of University. It offers higher education in Engineering, Technology and allied Sciences relevant to the current and projected needs of the society.Besides promoting research and disseminating knowledge gained therefrom, it fosters cooperation between the academic and industrial communities. The University was formed by bringing together and integrating two well-known technical institutions in the city of Madras.
- College of Engineering, Guindy (CEG)(1794)
- Madras Institute of Technology , Chrompet (MIT)(1949) and three Technological Departments of the University of Madras.
- Alagappa College of Technology (ACT)(1944)
- School of Architecture and Planning (SAP)(1957)
Anna University is a technical university in Tamil Nadu, India. The main university campus in located in Guindy, Chennai. It was named after former C N Annadurai, former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on 4 September 1978.
Situated in the southern part of the city of Madras (Chennai), the University's main campus extends over 100 hectares abutting the Adyar River on the north and Raj Bhavan on the south. The Madras Institute of Technology at Chrompet constitutes the second campus of the University which extends over 20 hectares. Both the campuses have a variety of buildings serving the various needs of the University community. A third campus extending over 80 hectares is located at Taramani near the Instronic campus, Adyar. The Bioprocess Laboratory donated by SPIC is located at present in this campus and a few more centers of advanced studies, like National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Sugar Research Institute, Mechatronics Institute, Entreprenuership Development Park, and Convention Centre will also be housed there in future.
Since December 2001,it has become a large, highly renowned affiliated University, having brought into its fold about 500+ Self-financing Engineering Colleges six Government Colleges and three Government-aided Engineering colleges located in various parts of Tamilnadu State.
In all other cases, he belongs to a college that is administered by the University. So the standard of technical education in that college is independent of the standard of the University.
Oldest Engineering colleges in India
Of the four colleges, CEG is one of the oldest Engineering colleges in the country. It was established even before the Indian Institutes of Technology came into the picture. CEG was established in the year 1794 while the oldest IIT that was set up was IIT-Roorkee in the year 1847 (originally University of Roorkee till it was converted into an IIT in the year 2001). The comparison is on the heritage and not the technical strength, as various factors play a role in determining that. I'd say along with Birla Institute of Technological Sciences and the National Institutes of Technology, the University Departments of Anna University are the only colleges that are on par with the Indian Institutes of Technology.
MIT was established as an autonomous technical institution in the year 1949 and due to its technical excellence and to have a common governing body MIT joined as one of the colleges housed by Anna University. Same goes with A.C.Tech and SAP.
STATUS
The Anna University ,which is of the affiliated type is a member of the Association of Indian Universities, the Association of Commonwealth Universities and Partner of UNESCO International Center for Engineering Education (UICEE). UGC have accrediated Anna University with Five Star Status in 2002 which is the highest rating. With proven capabilities both in academic and research areas, Anna University was able to receive this honour for a period of five years for excellence in Technical Education.
The aims of the University are:
• To constantly raise the quality of engineering education to produce superior human resource to match rapid technological developments,
• To share its academic experience and infrastructure with other institutions for providing quality education across the state and help students to fulfill their dreams,
• To uphold the highest ethical and professional standards while imparting engineering education and while fulfilling its obligations to students and staff and
• To serve the society with technological advancement and actively take part in building knowledge-based society.
Anna University Chennai has two major campus: the main campus on 185 acres of land is centrally located in Guindy and the MIT campus encompassing 56 acres of land is in chromepet, 15 kms from the Main Campus. Both these campuses accommodate about 1700 members of the staff and 19,000 students. There is also a small campus at tharamani 5 kms from the Main Campus. It houses 3000 sq.m. with advanced Biotechnology facilities, one of the best in the country. Further, 38.27 acres of land adjacent to the Main Campus has been provided by Government of Tamil Nadu for immediate expansion.
Anna University Chennai offers 45 UG programmes (including 15 Part-Time Programmes), 5 M.Phil Programmes under Science and Humanities and Ph.D in all Engineering and Technology discipliners including Applied Sciences and Humanities. Anna University Chennai has eight faculties and each faculty is headed by a chairman.
