Cognizant to recruit 25,000 employees in 2011
Kolkata: IT firm Cogizant Technology Solutions (CTS) is set to engage at least 25,000 new employees in 2011, while focusing more within the country in tune with its strategy to expand operations in developing economies, a top company official said.
"The company, which had a mandate of growing at 38.8 percent last year, performed well in the last two quarters," CTS president and managing director (global delivery) R. Chandrashekaran told reporters after the inauguration of its second campus in Bantala SEZ complex in the eastern part of the city.
"Most of our campus recruitment process is over. So we are definitely looking towards a very healthy number of people. It will be at least as good as last year when 25,000 new people were recruited," said Chandrashekaran.
He said the performance of the company's Indian operations during the last couple of quarters has been good and there is a healthy demand.
"We are making a lot of investments in newer markets. Europe is growing. We are focusing on emerging markets like India, Middle East, Japan, Australia and ASEAN countries."
While not commenting on India's share in the company's global turnover, he said: "We are seeing healthy pick up in the global market. Given the potential the countries have, we are hopeful of growing faster in emerging geographies."
The company will, meanwhile, continue to make new investments in newer geographies including India.
"It had earmarked an investment of $180 million for Indian operations which has almost been utilised. We have not finalised about investments for 2011," Chandrashekaran said.
The second campus of the CTS spread over 20 acres land, will be developed in three phases. The first phase of the facility, a LEED-certified green building, has a capacity to accommodate over 4,000 professionals.
The company has invested around 200 crore for the construction of the first phase. After the completion of the project, the Bantala campus will accommodate around 16,000 professionals.

Bubble Ball is a physics-based puzzle game that has been downloaded by more than two million iPhone users.
It became the top free application on the Apple store. But it hasn't been designed by a team of highly paid experts - it is the work of Robert Nav, a teenaged schoolboy.
Nav's game even outsold the adventure game Angry Birds. Since its release on December 29, Bubble Ball's success has become astounding, the Daily Mail reports.
Adding to Robert Nav's glory is the David versus Goliath nature of his victory. While he designed Bubble Ball in his bedroom in Spanish Fork, Utah, Angry Birds was developed by 17 professionals in Finland.
The rules of Bubble Ball are simple - players must move a small blue ball from one side of the screen to the other by steering it around various obstacles.

Islamic Development Bank (IDB), Jeddah has invited applications for scholarship cum interest-free education loan from meritorious but financially needy Indian Muslim students to help them to pursue professional courses such as Medical and Engineering.
This loan is for those students who have taken admission or intend to in academic year 2010-2011 in the first year of any degree courses of Medicine and Engineering including Homeopathy, Unani, Ayurvedic, Agriculture, Fisheries, Forestry, Food Technology, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Bachelor of Business Administration andBachelor of Law.

Talking to TwoCircles.net from Delhi, Mohammad Saifullah Rizwan, Executive Secretary of SIT, said: “It is a golden opportunity for the talented Muslim students who are unable to do professional courses due to financial problem. The students who passed matriculation with minimum 60% marks and have desire to go in professional fields should get benefit from this program.”
On number of students who will be selected this year he said: “We will select 250 students through interview. The Selection committee formed for this purpose will interview the applicants in almost all the states, then we will issue the list of selected students.”
Asked about amount that will be given to the selected students he told: “Each student of Medical is given Rs.45000/ and student of Engineering is given Rs. 40000/ per month till they complete the courses.
“They will have to return the amounts they receive from IDB after the completion of courses or after they get settlement in their profession so that it can pave the way for other students belonging to the same category and who want to do similar courses” he added.
